MOPAC Public Attitude Survey

Listening to Londoners' views on policing and crime

The London Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) Public Attitude Survey has been carried out for many decades. The survey asks for your views on the police, your experiences of crime and safety, and what you think policing priorities should be.

MOPAC has appointed Opinion Research Services (ORS) to conduct the survey interviews. Each month, ORS speaks to around 1,600 people that have been chosen at random to take part. This makes sure that the survey reflects a wide range of people from all parts of London.

MOPAC uses the survey results to set priorities for policing and community safety and to hold the Metropolitan Police Service to account, making sure that Londoners have an efficient and effective police service.

I was called as part of a survey into public perception of London Policing this evening. The gentleman who called was extremely professional, personable, patient and friendly. He explained everything in a clear manner and was happy to repeat as necessary. I wouldn’t ordinarily email but felt compelled as he was such a pleasure to deal with - what an asset to your organisation.

Questions & Answers...

Who are you?

We are Opinion Research Services Ltd, a limited company registered in England and Wales to undertake Market Research and Public Opinion Polling and our registered company number is 02904006.

Who is carrying out the survey?

Opinion Research Services (ORS) is carrying out the survey on behalf of the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC).

ORS is an independent social research agency that adheres to the Market Research Society Code of Conduct. This validates that we work to the highest professional standards.

What is the survey about?

The survey asks for your views on the police, your experiences of crime and safety, and what you think policing priorities should be, as well as asking for some information about you.

The survey helps MOPAC understand what matters most to Londoners when it comes to keeping communities safe.

Taking part gives you the chance to have your say and will help MOPAC make London safer for everyone.

Why did you choose me to take part?

Your address was picked at random from the Royal Mail Postal Address File, which includes every address in London.

Choosing addresses this way makes sure that the survey reflects a wide range of people from all parts of London.

Can someone else take part instead of me?

If more than one person lives at the address, one person aged 16 or over will be selected to take part in the survey. Choosing one person in this way helps to ensure that the survey represents everyone in London.

The interviewer is only able to interview the person that gets selected. Other people that live at the address or another friend or family member can be present during the interview if the person that is selected wants them to stay, but only the person selected will be able to give their views.

If the person that is selected does not want to take part, nobody else can take their place.

Why should I take part?

The survey depends on the support of Londoners who are chosen, so we hope you will take part. The survey only takes around 25 minutes and it will give you the chance to have your say.

MOPAC uses the survey results to set priorities for policing and community safety and to hold the Metropolitan Police Service to account, making sure that Londoners have an efficient and effective police service.

By getting involved, you can help make London a safer city for everyone.
